NXP Semiconductors was established in 2006 and has its headquarters based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.It was formerly known as Philips Semiconductors, which was founded in 1953, giving it over 50 years’ worth of experience in semiconductors.

It has a truly global presence; approximately 24,000 employees work in more than 25 countries including 3,300 employees in Research & Development.

Its product portfolio includes a broad range of standard semiconductor components, such as small signal discretes, power discretes and integrated discretes.They are often sold as separate components but in many cases they are used in conjunction with NXP’s high Performance Mixed Signal solutions, often within the same subsystems.

Key markets include the automotive, identification, wireless infrastructure, lighting, industrial, mobile, consumer and computing.It is a global market leader in areas such as automotive chips for in-vehicle networking, passive keyless entry and immobilization and car radios, and silicon tuners for the TV and set-top-box market.

The future for NXP sees growth in energy-efficient GreenChip technology, wirelessly controlled smart lighting, authentication technology, and solutions for the Smart Home or home automation market.
