The MM5450BN, manufactured by MICREL, is a monolithic LED display driver fabricated using a bipolar process and packaged in a 40-pin Plastic Dual In-Line Package (PDIP). This device is designed to interface directly between a microprocessor and a common-cathode LED display, capable of driving up to 35 individual LED segments. The MM5450BN incorporates an internal shift register and latch circuitry, enabling serial data input and parallel output to the LED display. Each output features constant-current sinking capability, providing uniform brightness across all illuminated LEDs. The device operates from a supply voltage typically between 4.5V and 5.5V, and is specified for operation over the commercial temperature range. Units are typically shipped in tubes containing 9 pieces for automated assembly processes.
