Product Details:

The LM317AMDT/NOPB is a three-terminal adjustable positive voltage regulator in a TO-220 surface mount package (SOIC-8 may also be available depending on supplier). It’s specifically characterized by its absence of lead-free plating (“NOPB”), making it suitable for applications where lead-free soldering processes may be undesirable or incompatible. This device offers a wide adjustable output voltage range from 1.2V to 37V, with a maximum output current of 1.5A (depending on heatsinking). The LM317AMDT features a guaranteed minimum output current of 10mA, and a typical input-output voltage differential of 3V. Its internal current limiting and thermal overload protection enhance robustness. Unlike some adjustable regulators, the LM317AMDT’s output voltage is relatively insensitive to input voltage variations, providing stable voltage regulation even with fluctuating power supplies. Common applications include precision voltage sources, current limiting circuits, and programmable power supplies where precise control and high reliability are paramount. The absence of lead-free plating, while potentially impacting environmental compliance, can be advantageous in specific high-temperature or legacy manufacturing processes where lead-free solder presents challenges. Engineers should consider the LM317AMDT/NOPB when lead-free restrictions are not mandatory and robust, adjustable voltage regulation is required within its specified current and voltage limits.
