The LC85AY-1, manufactured by Bourns, is a miniature resettable thermal cutoff device designed for overtemperature protection in electronic circuits. This device trips at a nominal temperature of 85°C, providing a single-pole, single-throw (SPST) normally closed function. Upon reaching the trip temperature, the internal bimetallic snap-action disc actuates, interrupting the circuit. The device automatically resets when the temperature drops below the reset temperature, typically 20-30°C below the trip point, re-establishing circuit continuity. The LC85AY-1 is commonly used in applications such as battery packs, motors, transformers, and lighting ballasts to prevent thermal runaway and potential damage.
