ICL8038CCPD – HARRIS / INTERSIL

The ICL8038CCPD, manufactured by Harris/Intersil, is a monolithic function generator integrated circuit capable of producing sine, square, triangular, sawtooth, and pulse waveforms. Housed in a 14-pin dual in-line package (DIP), it operates as a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with a frequency range typically from 0.001Hz to 300kHz, dependent on external resistor and capacitor values connected to the timing pins (Pins 4, 5, and 6). The device requires a dual power supply, typically ±5V to ±15V, and offers independent frequency and duty cycle adjustments. The sine wave output exhibits a typical total harmonic distortion (THD) of 1% when properly trimmed with an external potentiometer. Frequency modulation (FM) is achieved by applying a control voltage to Pin 8, allowing for voltage-to-frequency conversion applications. The output waveforms are available at Pins 2 (sine), 3 (square), and 9 (triangle).
