Zilog, Inc. is an American manufacturer of microprocessors and microcontrollers and is famous for its Intel 8080-compatible Z80 series microprocessor.
It was founded in California in 1974 by Federico Faggin who was the co-inventor of the microprocessor.
The Z-80 microprocessors are used widelyin home computing and gaming and it revolutionized electronic music, due to the first truly programmable polyphonic synthesizers relying heavily on implementations of this CPU from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s.
Today Zilog supplies application-specific embedded system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for the industrial and consumer markets. Its range also extends to single-board computers, application-specific software stacks and development tools, allowing designers quick time to market in the energy management, monitoring, metering, and motion detection areas.
