It was founded in 1984 by 3 Zilog Corporation employees. It now employs 3000 staff. It is the leader in supplying All Programmable technologies and devices and is famed for inventing the FPGA (field-programmable gate array).
The company has increased its product portfolio since its beginning; it now provides a broad range of FPGAs, CPLDs (complex programmable logic devices), design tools, intellectual property and reference designs. It also has a global services and training programme.
Xilinx's end-markets cover a wide spectrum of industries, from aerospace and defence, to medical and industrial & scientific.
